The Basque Country and the Rio+20 Summit
Basque Government representatives met with the Secretary of State for the Environment to outline the Basque Country's position at the Rio+20 summit.
This morning, the Coordination Director, Koldobike Uriarte, and the Director for Foreign Relations, Ainhoa Alday, met with the Secretary of State for the Environment, Federico Ramos, at the world summit that is being held in Rio de Janeiro this week.
The focal point of the meeting was to hand over documents on the Basque position regarding Rio+20, the UN conference on sustainable development. The Basque Country has been the only Autonomous Community that has put on record its position to prepare the final document that the Spanish government will submit to the summit.
The Directors of the Basque Government also set out its sustainability strategy in meetings with representatives of civil society. The NGOs and trade unions were able to discuss their contributions and ideas at the meeting and also learnt about the commitment that the Basque Government has assumed through Ecoeuskadi 2020. A plan that continues to advance thanks to the citizen participation regarding the Rio+20 summit.
