
The Lehendakari receives the Chinese Ambassador at his official residence
At midday today, the Lehendakari, Patxi Lopez, received the Chinese Ambassador, Zhu Bangzao, at his official residence, Ajuria Enea. The meeting marked the beginning of a two-day visit during which the representative of the Chinese government will be given an insight into the business and cultural situation of the Basque Country
During the interview, which was conducted in the company of the Secretary General of External Action, Guillermo Echenique, the Lehendakari and the ambassador discussed details of the business mission to China that the Government and Basque Chambers of Commerce are preparing for the last week in September 2010.
The Lehendakari will travel to Shanghai in the company of Industry Ministry and SPRI officials, Basque Chambers of Commerce, numerous businessmen and women and chefs from the Basque Culinary Centre, including Atxa, Aduriz, Arzak, Berasategi and Subijana.
Following the presentation at the Shanghai Expo of the activities planned in China by the Basque delegation, numerous contacts and meetings of a business nature will be made both in Shanghai and in the cities of Naijing and Kunshan.
At the same time, every evening there will be an exhibition of Basque cuisine, designed to bring the world of Basque cuisine closer to the people of Shanghai.
Following today's meeting with the Lehendakari, the Secretary General of External Action, with the collaboration of the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce and the Industry Ministry, has prepared a full programme for the Chinese ambassador, designed to increase their knowledge of the economic situation of their respective countries and to provide the ambassador with an insight into the culture and gastronomy of the Basque Country.
Zhu Bangzao is expected to visit the cities of Vitoria, Bilbao and San Sebastian, where he will spend the night. On the morning of the following day, June 9, he will visit the Chamber of Commerce of Gipuzkoa, where he will chair, together with the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Juan Goicolea, a meeting with Basque companies interested in doing business with China.
Later, Zhu Bangzao will be taken to the Bizkaia Technology Park, where he will be shown some of the main activities and initiatives developed there. Finally, his visit to the Basque Country will conclude with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum.
