Irekia receives an award for the “application of the principles of Free Knowledge to the manner of governing”
The Second Edition of the Focus Award for Free Knowledge has recognised leading companies, administrations and politicians for their efforts in promoting Free Knowledge.
Irekia, the Basque Government's web page for citizen participation, has received an award in the Second Edition of the Focus Awards for Free Knowledge as the best "Application of the principles of Free Knowledge to the manner of governing." Nagore de Los Ríos, Director of Open Government and Internet Communication, received, with "a great deal of enthusiasm," an award that recognises the efforts of the Basque administration to further free knowledge and apply it to public policy. De Los Ríos dedicated the award to the team that works on the Irekia project, "because they have been working extremely hard for a year", and to Patxi López, who has personally supported this project, recognising that "it is very difficult to change the manner in which the administration acts, if we don't begin from the top down."
The selection of the recipients of the awards involved citizen participation as, via Internet, they were able to choose the figures, organisations and bodies, amongst other candidates, who have made the greatest efforts in terms of steadfast and unwavering commitment to the promotion of Free Knowledge and the application of free technologies and standards that ensure universal access, under equal conditions, for all citizens with regards to Information and Communication Technologies.
Over the course of this evening and tomorrow, Thursday the 28th, all acts that take place (see Program) will employ a video streaming service, whereby they can be viewed in real time via iniciativafocus.org/streaming as the organisers of the event will provide live video broadcasts.
Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, Miguel Aìngel Amutio and Carlos Castro number amongst the award recipients in previous editions.
The Second Edition of the Focus Award for Free Knowledge will be the first event to be broadcast via video streaming: (19:30-21:00), presented by the journalist Javier Capitán
During the second day the "Forum on Free Knowledge and Public Administration"(10:00-14:00), the "Academy for the Freedom of Knowledge" (14:00-16:00) and the "Workshop of the CENATIC Public Administrations Forum" (16:00-19:00) will be available for live viewing on the web site.
