ACOP ranks Irekia as the third best government website in the world

The Basque Government website is only behind the sites of Obama and the State of California
ACOP (Political Communication Association), one of the leading internationally-renowned political consultants, has ranked Irekia, the Basque Government website to foster Open Government in the Basque Country, as the third best government website worldwide. This recognises "the electoral commitment of the Lehendakari, Patxi López, to open government" with a website that has become a "platform to inform and involve citizens in the decision-taking process of the Basque public sector and in the legislative process". According to the publication, which has prepared a world ranking with the best political and governmental websites of 2010 to end the year, two US websites, the site the State of California and the Whitehouse site, run by the Obama Administration, were at the top of the ranking. They were followed by Irekia in a prestigious third place. Irekia has also received other awards this year, such as the best "Application of the Free Knowledge principles to the form of government in the II Focus on Free Knowledge Awards". According to the ACOP publication, Irekia is "the best initiative so far" in Spain to facilitate the access by society to the decision-taking processes of the public administrations and to the legislative process
