Bilbao Web Summit, the "web of the future"

On the 17th and 18th of May, the Euskalduna Conference Hall will host the Bilbao Web Summit, a forum in which international Internet experts, businesspeople and professionals from different sectors of the business world come together to analyse the current situation and define the principal lines of action for the design of the "web of the future"

The Bilbao Web Summit will bring together more than 600 people over two days in the capital of Biscay to analyse the current situation and define the principle lines of action for the design of a Web for the forthcoming years. Internet experts, businesspeople and professionals from different sectors of the world of business will gather in this forum, for which online registration opens on Monday at www.bilbaowebsummit.com. The Basque Government's Vice-Minister for Innovation, Juan Goicolea, drew attention to the importance of being able to rely on a "group that has a very clear idea of what a government that participates, takes ideas into account and strives to make the web evolve needs to do" as it is necessary to "oversee and promote the web every day." Experts participating in this event include Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the HTML language and the HTTP protocol, and Chris Shipley, Silicon Valley's "most influential" woman. The Consultative Commission of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) will also be holding a number of meetings in Bilbao to lay the foundations for the Web for the forthcoming years. The criteria established in Bilbao will affect the future of on-line banking, electronic administration, telemedicine, digital education, digital media and business over the Internet. In addition to the Basque Government's Vice-Minister for Innovation, Juan Goicolea, the presentation ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Bilbao, Iñaki Azkuna, the founder of Anboto, the Biscay company responsible for organising the event, Xabier Uribe-Etxebarria, and the Ministry of Science and Innovation's General Secretary, Juan Tomás Hernani.
