The Basque Country Delegation to the EU appeared in a public hearing in the European Parliament before the European regions and institutions

The Basque Country Delegate to the European Union, Marta Marin, has defended the Basque maritime sector and its role in the European agenda during a public hearing of the European Parliament.

Under the leadership of 13 European regions, the public hearing focused on the diversification and innovation of the steelworks in Europe, along with the way to consolidate industrial competitiveness and the technological leadership of the maritime industries.

The session was attended by representatives of the European Union institutions and of the main European coastal regions.

The initiative was chaired by the EuroMP, Corinne Lepage, chair of the "Sea and Coastal Areas Intergroup, and organised jointly with the Pays de la Loire region and the European regions that make up the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPRM), which includes the Basque Country.

During her intervention, the Basque Country Delegate to the European Union highlighted the Basque maritime sector and, in particular, the commitment by different Basque companies from the sector to make the most of the opportunities offered by wind power to create wealth, jobs and innovation.

At the end of the public hearing, the main European maritime regions submitted a Memorandum of Understanding to the representatives of the European Commission and of the European Parliament. This document seeks to continue the dialogue with the European institutions and outline the position of 13 maritime regions in key areas, such as industrial policy, the integrated maritime policy, innovation, environment, energy policy, regional policy, etc. The signing regions were: the Basque Country, Galicia, Pays de la Loire, Brittany, Nord-Pas de Calais, Poitou-Charentes, Campania, Liguria, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, Marche, Toscany, South-East Finland and Voivodie Pomorskie.
